Metal Brackets - Sheet Metal Stamping

Metal Brackets – 7 Hidden Mistakes Buyers Make & How TheSupplier Solves Them

❗ Metal brackets that “look perfect” can still fail on your assembly line.

An aerospace buyer once ordered stainless steel brackets on a tight deadline. The parts looked fine — until the mounting holes didn’t align.

🔎 Root Cause: 0.6mm twist across the bracket’s surface.
📦 Result: Shipment rejected. Assembly delayed. Costs up.

This isn’t rare. Brackets are one of the most frequently rejected parts — not for dimensions, but due to avoidable oversights.

✅ What Are Metal Brackets?

Metal brackets are small but critical parts used in:

  • ✅ Mounting systems

  • ✅ Structural supports

  • ✅ EV battery enclosures

  • ✅ Medical and HVAC panels

  • ✅ Industrial assemblies

They’re made using sheet metal stamping, laser cutting, CNC bending, or machining — followed by surface treatment.

But if you miss key points in your RFQ, you’ll get parts that fail after delivery.

❌ 7 Hidden Mistakes Buyers Make

✅ 1. Not Specifying Flatness Tolerance

A bracket can match all dimensions — but still fail if it’s warped.

👉 Flatness issues often appear after bending or during laser heat.
🧠 Always write:
Flatness ≤ 0.3mm per 100mm length

Flatness specs should follow internationally accepted tolerances like those defined in ISO 2768-1 for general metal parts.

✅ 2. Missing Hole Chamfering or Deburring

Sharp burrs inside holes = fasteners jam, scratch, or strip.

✅ Always say:
All holes chamfered 0.5mm x 45° and fully deburred.

✅ 3. Ignoring Grain Direction While Bending

Sheet metal has grain — like wood.
If bent against the grain, aluminum or stainless steel brackets can crack during forming or in service.

✅ At TheSupplier, we control grain direction before bending.

✅ 4. Skipping Surface Finish Specs

When you don’t specify the finish, suppliers may send:

  • ❌ Oily, unfinished surfaces

  • ❌ Uneven or incorrect powder coating

  • ❌ Rusty edges from poor handling

✅ Instead of saying “powder coat”, say:
Powder Coat RAL9005, 60–70 μm
Electropolished finish on SS304

✅ 5. No QC Photo or Inspection Checklist

Most buyers only realize the problem after delivery — dents, scratches, misalignments.

✅ At TheSupplier, every bracket order includes:

  • Photo-based QC report

  • Flatness check

  • Tapping confirmation

  • Burr-free inspection

  • Surface finish photo proofMetal Bracket - QC Report

✅ 6. Not Clearly Specifying Tapping

Suppliers may skip threading if you don’t clearly write it in the RFQ.

✅ Always mention:
M6 × 1.0 full depth, minimum 10mm tapping

✅ 7. Not Explaining the Use-Case

Is the bracket cosmetic, structural, or load-bearing?

⚠️ Without context, the supplier may:

  • Use wrong material grade

  • Skip coating

  • Tolerate looser bend radii

✅ At TheSupplier, we ask for the use-case before quoting.
